Angama Mara
Suspended in mid-air above the Mara plains
About Angama Mara
Angama Mara is Kenya's most architecturally daring safari lodge — 30 tented suites built directly into the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, with floor-to-ceiling glass fronts that frame the entire Maasai Mara below. This is the location where Out of Africa was filmed.
Designed by Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens (the same architects behind Mombo and North Island), the lodge feels like a private members' club — with an editing suite for photographers, hot-air balloon launches from the property, and game drives down to the Mara plains. The Great Migration river crossings happen between July and October just below the lodge.
