The 6-hour hike ascends through volcanic jungle to the crater rim at 3,470m, where you spend the night in basic cabins overlooking the world's largest lava lake. As darkness falls, the lava lake transforms into a churning cauldron of red-orange light, illuminating the crater walls and reflecting off the clouds above. It is, quite simply, one of the most awe-inspiring natural spectacles on the planet.
