Zimbabwe — Africa's Comeback Safari Star
Zimbabwe has made an extraordinary comeback as one of Africa's premier safari destinations. Home to Victoria Falls — one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World — and some of the continent's best walking safaris, Zimbabwe offers raw, authentic wildlife experiences with exceptional guides at prices more accessible than Botswana or Tanzania.
Zimbabwe Weather — Month by Month
Dry Season (May – October)
May–June: Cool and dry (10–25°C). Victoria Falls is still at full flow from the rains. Hwange's waterholes start drawing wildlife. Excellent game viewing begins.
July–August: Cold mornings (5°C possible), warm days (25°C). Peak safari season. Hwange's pump-fed waterholes create spectacular elephant and predator concentrations. Victoria Falls flow starts decreasing. Mana Pools is at its best.
September–October: Hot (30–40°C). The best game viewing of the year — animals are forced to the last water sources. Mana Pools' iconic elephants stand on hind legs to reach albida tree pods. Victoria Falls exposes the rock face, allowing Devil's Pool swimming (Zambian side).
Wet Season (November – April)
November–December: Rains begin. Landscapes transform. Victoria Falls starts building. Birdwatching is exceptional (470+ species). Lower rates at lodges.
January–April: Heavy rains. Some safari camps close. Victoria Falls reaches its thundering peak in March–April. Green season photography is stunning.
Top Zimbabwe Safari Destinations
1. Victoria Falls
The world's largest curtain of falling water — 1.7km wide, 108m high. The spray can be seen 50km away. Activities include bridge bungee jumping, sunset cruises, helicopter flights, and white-water rafting in the Batoka Gorge.

2. Hwange National Park
Zimbabwe's largest park (14,651 km²) — home to one of Africa's largest elephant populations (40,000+). The pump-fed waterholes create front-row wildlife viewing from hides. Exceptional for painted dogs (African wild dogs).
3. Mana Pools National Park
A UNESCO World Heritage Site and arguably Africa's finest walking safari destination. Guides lead you on foot through floodplains where elephants, lions, and wild dogs roam. The setting — albida forests along the Zambezi River — is breathtaking.
4. Matobo Hills
Ancient granite formations, San rock art dating back 13,000 years, and the highest concentration of leopards in Africa. Also home to both black and white rhino — track them on foot with armed guides.
Hwange's pump-fed waterholes create spectacular elephant and predator concentrations.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book a safari?
We recommend booking 6–12 months in advance for peak season (June–October), especially for popular lodges. Off-season travel can often be booked 2–3 months ahead. Last-minute deals are sometimes available for shoulder seasons. The earlier you book, the better your chances of securing your preferred dates and lodges.
Do I need travel insurance for safari?
Yes — comprehensive travel insurance is essential and often required by safari lodges. Ensure your policy covers medical evacuation (important in remote bush areas), trip cancellation, luggage loss, and adventure activities. We can recommend reputable safari-specific insurance providers.
What currency should I bring?
US Dollars are widely accepted across Africa for tips, curio purchases, and park fees. South African Rand is used in SA. Most lodges accept credit cards (Visa/Mastercard preferred). Carry small denominations ($1, $5, $10) for tips and local purchases. ATMs are available in major towns.
How much should I tip on safari?
Tipping guidelines: Safari ranger/guide: $10–$20 per person per day. Tracker: $5–$10 per person per day. Lodge staff (shared tip box): $10–$20 per person per day. Transfer drivers: $5–$10 per transfer. Tips are typically given in USD or local currency at the end of your stay.
