First-Timer Safari FAQs

Everything you need to know before your first African adventure.

Absolutely. Safari reserves are professionally managed with trained rangers and strict safety protocols. You’re in a vehicle or at a secure lodge at all times. South Africa and Kenya are especially beginner-friendly with excellent infrastructure and English-speaking guides.
For peak season (June–October), book 6–12 months ahead. Green season trips can be planned 2–4 months out. Last-minute deals are sometimes available but with limited choices.
Neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, brown), a warm fleece for morning drives, sunscreen, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera with a zoom lens. Most lodges do laundry daily, so pack light. Use a soft-sided duffel bag for bush flights.
Requirements vary by destination. Yellow fever may be required for some East African countries. Antimalarial medication is recommended for most safari areas except certain South African reserves. Consult a travel doctor 6–8 weeks before departure.
Yes! Many lodges welcome children 6+ (some from age 2). South Africa and Kenya have excellent family-friendly reserves with junior ranger programmes, malaria-free options, and family suites. Our team can recommend the perfect family safari.
In quality reserves like Kruger/Sabi Sands (South Africa), Masai Mara (Kenya), and Ngorongoro Crater (Tanzania), Big Five sighting rates are 90%+ over a 3-day stay. We only recommend reserves with proven track records.
