Why Visit Hwange National Park?

Hwange National Park is Zimbabwe's flagship wildlife reserve — a vast wilderness the size of Belgium, home to over 40,000 elephants, 100 mammal species, and some of Africa's healthiest populations of endangered wild dogs, sable antelope, and roan antelope. The park's famous pumped waterholes create spectacular dry-season wildlife theatre, drawing massive herds of elephants and buffalo within viewing distance of strategically placed hides. Combined with Zimbabwe's legendary guiding standards and just 2 hours from Victoria Falls, Hwange offers exceptional safari quality at outstanding value.

01

Elephant Kingdom

Over 40,000 elephants — Zimbabwe's largest population. The pumped waterholes create spectacular concentrations, with hundreds of elephants drinking at once.

02

Africa's Best Guiding

Zimbabwe has the toughest guiding qualifications in Africa. Hwange's guides are among the continent's most knowledgeable bush experts.

03

Wild Dog Haven

One of Africa's healthiest wild dog populations — multiple packs roam Hwange's vast territory. The Painted Dog Conservation centre is a must-visit.

04

Waterhole Theatre

Hwange's famous pumped waterholes draw extraordinary wildlife — elephants, buffalo, sable, and predators. Many camps have private waterhole hides.

05

Victoria Falls Combo

Just 2 hours from Victoria Falls — the Hwange + Victoria Falls combination is Southern Africa's best-value luxury safari circuit.

06

Rare Antelope Species

Sable antelope, roan antelope, tsessebe, and gemsbok — rare species that are difficult to find elsewhere in Southern Africa.

Traveler Stories

What Our Guests Say About Hwange National Park

The underground hide at The Hide was the highlight of our entire Africa trip — elephants drinking just 3 metres from our faces! We counted over 400 elephants at a single waterhole. Hwange's guides are the best we've ever had. Zimbabwe is seriously underrated.

Hwange is extraordinary value compared to Botswana — the same elephants, the same quality, at a fraction of the price. The walking safari with our guide at Somalisa was genuine frontier bushcraft. The wild dogs hunting at sunset was unforgettable.

The Painted Dog Conservation centre was educational and touching — our children were deeply moved by the rehabilitation work. On safari, we saw three wild dog packs and countless elephants. Camp Hwange felt like staying with friends. Incredible experience.
