Bottlenose dolphins are among the most intelligent and charismatic marine mammals on Earth. Along the Cape Town coastline, pods of 10–50 dolphins regularly surf the waves, hunt in coordinated groups, and entertain boat passengers with acrobatic leaps. They use echolocation to navigate murky waters and communicate through a complex system of clicks, whistles, and body language. Each dolphin has a unique signature whistle — essentially their own name. Watching dolphins surf the waves at Camps Bay or follow a fishing boat in False Bay is one of Cape Town's most magical marine encounters.
